Just about there!
Well, it's been about a month since I updated my website so here the latest.
After pulling all the tape and paper off, I found a few runs and some orange peel so the next three weeks were spent wet sanding with 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 grit sandpaper.
I burnt through in a few places and did some touch-up painting
Once the wet sanding was done it was time to compound and start bringing the shine back.
I bought a Porter Cable 7424 buffer/polisher that came with several different foam pads, orange for compounding, white for polishing and red for buffing.
I bought some 3-M Perfect II Rubbing Compound and Foam Polishing Pad Glaze from the PPG store in Conroe.
Wax on Memorial Day if I get everything done. |

Dan this next shot is for you! |

Even after Dan warned me, I ended up breaking my windshield anyway. The pisser is it was about 97% installed. My brother-in-law and I were trying to bump the top out a little while pushing in the bottom - wrong! The replacement will be here Wednesday and the glass company is installing it for $250.
Installing the roll up windows are a pain in the butt! No wonder VW had fixed windows for 20 years, they couldn't figure out how to make them roll up. After 4 hours the drivers side was in, and out and in and out......
The passenger side only took an hour. I may be slow but I can be trained.
The rest of the windows are going in pretty good.
My new target is the Herbie Cruise through The Woodlands June 5. See you there. |
