Repair Page -1
After the trip to Georgetown, Texas for the Texas VW Classic, it was apparent that Sparky needed a new transmission. Clark and the gang at Oakhill Automotive rebuilt a swap unit and I changed it out. www.oakhillautomotive.com
I now began cleaning up the interior. The PO must have used Sparky as a doghouse for several years because there was pounds of dog hair everywhere and my dog, Roxy, would go nuts every time she smelled me or the bus. I stripped out all the old floors and wall paneling and used POR15 throughout to treat any surface rust. I repaired a small hole in drivers floor board using fiberglass cloth and POR15. The passenger side just needed some wire brushing and paint.
The following are some photos of the new seat covers, floor mat, pedestal mat, insulation, CD player, gauges & new LT195R75-14 BF Goodrich tires. My wife made new curtains. New roof plywood was installed. I bought 5'x5'x1/8" sheets of birch from Houston Hardwoods. These are much better than 4x8 sheets from the lumber yard. Before I started the rust repairs on the following pages, Sparky and I had traveled 4,199 miles in 10 months.
