The rust is gone! What started as a small
project ended up being a big one. I found rust in every section of Sparky
except the left rear corner. Anywhere VW decided there needed to be an
inner and outer skin, there was rust of some kind. Even when you couldn't
see it, it was just below the surface. I used my 4" grinder and a
chipping hammer to check all along the lower 6" of Sparky all the way
around.
Here's the last of the rust repairs. Next,
I'll be starting to sand the entire body in preparation for new paint.
Here's a few more shots of the windshield area. This
took a lot of sand and filling to get the curve just right. I would have
replaced this area if you could buy the upper nose section.
