Sand...putty...sand...prime...putty...sand...prime........................
And on it goes. The more I look the more problems I find. The VW Classic is not looking good all the sudden. You can see from the photos below, the sliding door and passenger door both had substantial body work under the paint. I ground it all out down to bare metal and worked the metal as smooth as I could get it. It's still going to take some Bondo to smooth it all out, but not nearly as much as was there. I hope to have all the old paint off by the end of next weekend, but depending on how the sanding goes will tell whether I have a chance to make the Texas Classic. If not, I will shoot for the Arkansas show at Mountain Home.

Here's an update as of March 5, 2005. That old VW paint is hard to get off. I ended up using Aircraft Stripper to get down to bare metal on the roof. I'm glad I did, there were some rust spots under the paint. Nothing serious, but it would have made mew mad to have a rust bubble pop up on the roof after all this. Hope to have everything in primer by Sunday PM.
